Mr. E and BLOGGING

Wayback 2000, I was employed in a Christian School in Quezon City. Biology was the subject I first handled. My undegrad preparation was 'general science', that's why I really did struggle discussing biological concepts. The curriculum used was 'A BEKA' an American curriculum for Christian Education.

Honestly, that was the beginning of my exposure: to the subject, to microscopes, microslides, laboratory, investigatory projects, etc. But at the end of the first year, I was given general science subjects. That's where I was able to actualize myself specially in the earth sciences. My command for science research, and yes robotics was strengthened. I was one of the first teachers trained for the First Philippine Robotics Olympiad, the winning team in the elementary level (of which I was one of the trainers) was sent to China in 2002.

When I got married in 2003, I went back to the province and worked as a part-time instructor here. But I was still active in site development (using pure html codes). I was able to learn it because I was interested at it. My interest in site making began in 2000 when one day I picked a handout cluttered along the hallway of our school about basic html programming. I studied it and presto, I was able to make my first webpage. Then, I started using yahoo pagebuilder. I was able to meet my students in the information highway... MIRC (my nick there was m-AGENT-a, YM, bravenet and voy forums. I made a pure html programmed site (http://www.fetalvero.2ya.com/) using the free webspace offer of geocities. I also made one for my class (http://www.tensais.2ya.com/). And from there, my fondness of making sites progressed.

In 2003, I became an editor and webmaster of http://www.sanrokan.com/ and in 2005, the website development of Romblon State College was tasked to me, http://www.rsc.edu.ph/.

In 2007, I already attempted to use blog as a tool to improve my instruction, www.rsc.edu.ph/sir_ed. However, slow internet connection hampered my efforts. I stopped and went on friendster instead. I enhanced my skills in graphics using adobe photoshop and in-design. This is one of my sidelines aside from making websites and selling Liliw shoes (www.rsc.edu.ph/gracees). I am making souvenir programs and yearbook (from lay-out to printing). The last project I had was the yearbook of our school. The deal closed on June 18 and the 800 yearbooks were delivered on July 21. Just a month as compared to those yearbooks of the previous graduates which are still undone until now.

Last week, I was browsing articles about science education. I read an abstract of an article from Australia utilizing blogs/weblogs as a learning and teaching tool. I was amazed of the findings. It inspired me to start one Filipino blog focusing around biology education. As to my current searches in the net, I haven't found one Filipino blog of this type. Follow http://supportblogging.com/Links+to+School+Bloggers.

Feeling unprepared for the graduate school, I decided to launch this blog. I really don't know what pieces will I place here or what benefit will I get from this. I yet have to discover but I presume that this one could be a helpful approach to cope with my 'inferior academic preparation both in the undergraduate and master levels' and put me in an advantage of knowing the current trends and issues in biology education.
